Recycling Facts

  • Recycling one ton of paper saves 24-31 trees, 4000 kWh of energy, 1.7 barrels (270 liters) of oil, 26000 liters of water and 3.5 m3 of landfill space.
  • Recycling paper saves 65% of the energy needed to make new paper and also reduces water pollution by 35% and air pollution by 74%.

  • One ton of recycled plastic saves 5774 kWh of energy, 16.3 barrels (2604 liters) of oil and 22 m3 of landfill space.
  • There is an 80 to 90% reduction in energy consumption by producing recycled plastic compared with producing plastic from virgin materials (oil & gas)

  • One ton of recycled aluminum saves up to 8 tons of bauxite (main source of aluminum), 14000 kWh of energy, 40 barrels (6300 liters) of oil and 7.6 m3 of landfill.
  • Recycling aluminum uses 95% less energy than producing aluminum using raw materials.
